Cinderella has gone to the ball!

BATS' 40th pantomime has finished it's successful run at the Bryce.

Thanks to everyone who helped create the magic - actors and techies and front of house, without whom, none of it would have been possible. And to you the audience...who joined in the fun each and every night!

Over the next couple of days, the website will be up-dated with memories and pictures of the show, but first one big announcement....

For those who bought a copy of our commemorative programme, you will be aware that each was numbered. During the interval on Saturday night's final performance, a special draw was made and that winning numbered programme wins £50 of M&S vouchers.

So if you have the winning number, please contact us on 01539 727142 or email cinderella2014@btinternet.com.

You will have to produce the programme to claim the prize, so we will have to meet up....

And the winning number is.....

46

If you have that numbered programme...get in touch.

7th January 2014....Meet the Cast
Simon Yaxley - Buttons

The ever busy Simon has managed to fit this production of Cinderella into his heavy schedule of pantos and plays. Indeed, after he finishes this run, he joins the Lakes Players in their production of Jack and the Beanstalk at the Lakes School (tickets available, panto junkies!) All this and his day job as an award winning presenter on Lakeland Radio.

Simon is fast becoming a mainstay for BATS, have played in Mort, Dracula and The Hound of the Baskervilles in the last 3 years, plus 2 showstoppers and last years’ Sinbad...Phew!

This year, Simon swops dames dress for lots and lots of buttons....but how many?

Ron Milnes - The Baker

Ron is delighted to bring to the Bryce his experience of London’s West End stage. He has contributed much applause to such shows as “Les Miserables”, “The Phantom of the Opera” and “Wicked”. He does make frequent appearances at the half-price ticket booth in Leicester Square as he rushes round to discover which theatre has the best bargain prices for his next audience participation.

He frequently passes the Royal Acadamy of Dramatic Arts (RADA) on his way back to Euston Station.

Ron has been in each BATS pantomime since 2007, by coincidence, Cinderella and played the demanding part of Baron Von-Trapdoor...Who could forget his showstopping rendition of “You’re The Devil in Disguise”  to his wife? (What do you mean...you have!!!!???)

After much texting, he is pleased the Producer has given him the part of the Baker in this year’s 40th production.

7th January 2014...Meet the Cast
John Dodds - Snatch

John has been with BATS for more years than he cares, or indeed is able, to remember!

John travels the motorways of Britain as a trainer and he is glad to be able to stay put in one place for a fortnight as he partners Helen as the second half of the dastardly Brokers Men duo!

Always one for a silly face (born that way!) and a daft voice (years of practice!), John is looking forward to playing the fool once more on the stage of the Bryce for the pleasure and delectation of the audience!

However, John’s versatility as an actor goes beyond mere tom-foolery...having played serious as Renfield in Dracula and Sir Henry in The Hound of the Baskervilles...

15th December 2013...Meet the Cast
Bill Turton - Major Domo

Bill's first panto with BATS was in 1978 (Jack and the Beanstalk, fact fans!), having already performed in 2 pantos at Stavely. Bill thought he was coming to Burneside as an "experienced hand"...how much he had to learn!!!

Over the next 15 years, Bill played most of the best panto character parts, usually in a garish frock, and then moved back stage to become BATS' Stage Manager, helping realise a number of set constructions.

Bill's last acting part in BATS' pantos was as the eponymous hero in Ali Baba in January 1992.

After 3 years, Bill reluctantly had to step down and retire...But the "roar of the greasepaint and the smell of the crowd" has lured him back.

Recently, Bill has appeared in BATS' production of Dracula as The Sea Captain...
...but Bill just had to get into one more panto...and what better time as BATS hits its 40th birthday?

Welcome back, Bill!

14th December 2013 - Thanks to Barclays in Kendal for allowing us to undertake a little publicity in the banking hall...I'm sure the customers loved it!!!!!

Helen Townson - Snitch

Helen returns to BATS this year after taking a few years out to build up her Beauty  & Make- up business and she not only takes a role in the panto this year, but she is also the casts "make -up artist" ....

And this year she is moving on from her usual "fairy godmother" role  she had became accustomed too  and  is giving a " baddy" role a go!

She is enjoying working along side some great talent from the BATS "old guard", along with some new faces enlisted for BATS 40th anniversary panto!

This year is going to be great fun and Helen is honored to be part of it!

Mark Crook - Viagra Hardup

After a couple of years away from BATS, it’s great to be part of the celebration of 40 years of pantomime. I can’t remember my first pantomime here – it’s lost in the mists of time - and that’s probably a good thing! This is the first time I have played one of the ‘facially challenged’ sisters, and the first time I’ve played a ‘baddie’ (although these sisters imbue more sympathy then fear!), and it really is great fun! Cinderella is a magical family show full of fun, song and comic routines – it’s a pleasure to be back on the Burneside boards.

5th December 2013...Meet the Cast
Martin Cash - Baron Hardup

Having been “persuaded” to stay on for BATS 40th (and his 21st) Pantomime, Martin wanted a role that would suit him perfectly. He has therefore been cast as a penniless, upper class twit with a domineering wife.

A selection of photographs taken by Allan Bovill as part of the Westmorland Gazette photoshoot.

Some of these pictures will appear in future editions of the Gazette and their special Christmas publications. But just for you, a sneak preview...

Thanks to Allan....

Allan is a freelance photographer, keen to accept private commissions. He looks forward, particularly, to creating quality portrait photographs.

Sarah Kidd - Dandini

After playing 'Puss' in Puss in Space Boots and 'Sinbad' in Sinbad in the past two years' BATS pantomimes, this will be her third year treading the boards at the Bryce... This year playing the cheeky chappy Dandini.

Sarah has previously studied performing arts at Kendal college and has been involved with the Brewery Arts Centres Youth Theatre and dance groups for many years. Not only performing, but choreographing and assisting to direct many large productions such as Billy Elliot.

She is very excited to be back and hopes you enjoy the show as much as she's enjoyed being part of it.

Jackie O'Sullivan - Lady Devilia Hardup

After first appearing in panto in 1995,  Jackie is very proud to be given a part in BATS celebratory 40th panto.

Equally she is delighted to be playing Lady Devilia Hardup who, contrary to popular belief, does not have the psychopathic tendencies that poor old Cinderella would have you believe.

Jackie  just likes to think of her as... "misunderstood"!

Adam Carruthers - Hernia

Adam joins BATS this year after years of being in the audience and desperate to give it a go.

By day, Adam is an  engineer by trade...by night (at least in January 2014!), a man in a frock!

Adam is also very musical, being self taught with the guitar and a member of a band " that are doing well " and often has trips to London for recordings .

Recently married, Adam has taken to the role as one of the Ugly Sisters like a "duck to water " and  is looking forward to getting his teeth into this new role...

Jessica Lawson - Cinderella

Jessica Lawson (no relation to our director!) is a folk singer by trade and has spent several years touring the country, sharing a stage with the likes of Barbara Dickson and Steeleye Span.

She trained in dance and musical theatre at Northern Academy of Performing Arts where she was involved in a number of productions.

This is her first pantomime since playing Prince Charming in the 2nd Kirk Ella Girl Guides production of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves in 2002....so you could say it’s been a while!

She is really excited to be part of this show and especially to be playing Cinderella.

Carly Pearson - Prince Charming

After not been on stage for over 10 years, Mark Crook (our returning Dame), dragged Carly along (in his high heels!) to the BATS’ auditions for this year’s production of Cinderella.

Carly has only been in the area for just over a year, but is delighted to be back treading the boards in the role of Prince Charming...particularly as Carly has always thought she had blue blood flowing through her veins!

Oh...and she hopes that you will enjoy the thigh slapping as much as she wil...!

Sue Cook - Fairy Godmother

Back in November 2006, Yvonne Nelson asked me to join BATS 2007 production of Cinderella.

After a bit of persuading I went along and played half of the comic duo Dim and Wit.

7 years later - having taken part in many pantos, plays and Showstoppers and become Chairman of BATS - it's Cinderella again !!

After a run of playing 'baddies' this time I'm playing the ultimate 'goodie' -  the Fairy Godmother!

Now where did I put that magic wand......!!
