June 2013 - The Hound of the Baskervilles

Picture
The Hound of the Baskervilles is the third of the four crime novels written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle featuring the detective Sherlock Holmes.

Originally serialized in The Strand Magazine from August 1901 to April 1902, it is set largely on Dartmoor in Devon and tells the story of an attempted murder inspired by the legend of a fearsome, diabolical hound of supernatural origin.

Sherlock Holmes and his companion Doctor Watson investigate the case. This was the first appearance of Holmes since his intended death in "The Final Problem", and the success of The Hound of the Baskervilles led to the character's eventual revival.

Adapted by BATS, this is a fast moving adaptation of the novel.

May 2012 - Dracula

Picture
DRACULA

By Bram Stoker

Adapted by Jane Thornton and John Godber

From two of Britain's most popular playwrights comes and exciting new version of the most chilling story of all time.Remaining true to Bram Stoker's gothic classic, Dracula is a fast moving, multi-layered masterpiece of fear.

As a sudden and mysterious storm whips the coast of England, a young woman sleepwalks along the edge of a sea cliff. In the teeth of the gale, a ship crashes through the harbour entrance, abandoned except for an immense dog an fifty boxes of grave dust. The Transylvanian Count Dracula has arrived in England.

Immortal only as long as he is able to drink the blood of the living, he pursues his victims with brutal devestating effect. From the remote wildernesss of Yorkshire to the vast ruins of Carfax Abbey near to London, whose windows emit no light, the race to end Dracula's lustful power is underway...if only there is still time...

April 2011 - Mort

Picture
For a spring play what could be better than a Terry Pratchett classic. adapted to the stage by Stephen Briggs.

This play put our own Elliot Baxter in the lead role of deaths apprentice, he rose to the challenge and gave a excellent performance. It also had a few new members come in for this in the lines of Simon “Staff of Life” Thomas, Simon “Not the Bay” Yaxley and Danial Taylor, leaving the back stage crew for a acting role.

April 2010 - The Haunting of Hill House

Picture
Hill House, not sane, stood by itself against its hills, holding darkness within, it had stood so for eighty years and might stand for eighty more.

Within, the walls continued upright, bricks met neatly, floors were firm, and doors were sensibly shut; silence lay steadily against the wood and stone of Hill House, and whatever walked there, walked alone.

July 2008 – Picasso at the Lapin Agile

Picture
‘What I just said is the fundamental, end-all, final, not-subject-to-opinion, absolute truth depending on where you are standing.”

PARIS, 1904
ONE BAR. TWO OF THE FINEST MINDS OF THE 20TH CENTURY (PLUS A SPECIAL VISITOR) IT’S ALL RELATIVE...

Picture
For the second time this year, the Bryce Institute – decorated like an elegant night club – played host to a sophisticated evening of cabaret-style entertainment. The evocative candlelit tables setting the scene.
The audience were wined and dined, and treated to some marvellous entertainment.
A great programme of solos and duets, with some standout singers, and even a dance troupe to add colour to the floor show.
Another success for the Society, and one which looks likely to be repeated!
