As
I took my seat for Burneside Amateur Theatrical Society's latest Showstoppers
show, I was intrigued by the plane ticket in my hand. It soon came to light that
we were on an imaginary flight taking us on a musical tour around the globe
with BATS talented performers, hosted by a comedy captain and stewardess.
An excellent blend of show tunes, popular hits and comedy items made the couple of hours 'fly' by.
We were treated to songs in a Parisian cafe, favourites from Salzburg in the form of tunes from The Sound of Music, with the BATS juniors a real highlight with So Long, Farewell beautifully performed.
Then stopovers in Israel, for Jesus Christ Superstar, then India, Australia for a hilarious performance from the four men in drag, then home via The South Pacific and America, all rounded off with a rousing cockney rendition of the Lambeth Walk.
The audience certainly enjoyed the trip. Yes, there were one or two little glitches but they added to the adventure and all the performers gave their best in this terrific local production.
The sets and costumes looked amazing.
Congratulations to Sue Cook and Liz Archer for producing such an entertaining evening.
